Our Story
Our proud host, Charles, established Charlie’s Spot ~ Norwood in 2019, ideally located off Grant Avenue, known for its many restaurants, fast food outlets and a variety of shops. We had the luxury and privilege of meeting fascinating individuals from all over the world, and so more South Africa and in doing so, have become friends with many of our guests.
An ever-returning guest once complimented that Charlie’s Spot is her ‘Home from Home’, which is precisely the experience we strive to provide for all our guests. We live on our reputation, high ratings from both local and foreign guests and providing Home from Home to our guests.
As he had worked his entire adulthood, with the passive living of retirement looming, which seemed contrary to freedom, Charles felt the need to plan his retiree’s future in advance. Not knowing what to do to keep busy, and having nothing to work on when the time for retirement would arrive, living in a rented garden apartment sparked the idea to start a venture in the lodging zone. With his team, Charles welcomed a joint endeavour into hospitality, offering a homely but sophisticated accommodation experience at Charlie’s Spot ~ Norwood.
After building a solid standing based on our comfortable accommodation and good service, the time for expansion arrived. Searching for suitable premises, we stumbled across the perfect property, formerly known as Uxolo Lodge, which was on the market as the then owners wanted to relocate overseas. It was precisely what Charles was after – comfortable accommodation, a homely atmosphere in a heritage protected old house with loads of character and located close to the famous restaurant strip in Grant Avenue as well. And so Charlie’s Spot ~ The Gardens found it’s way into our journey in 2022.
